How to Plan CCTV and Security for a Nigerian Home
A camera pointed at the wrong place, recording over itself every two days, is not security. Planning coverage properly usually means fewer cameras than people expect and better footage when it matters.
Cover approaches, not walls
Prioritise the gate, the main entrance, the compound perimeter path and any blind side of the building. Faces are identifiable at entry points, which is where recorded footage is genuinely useful.
Plan storage before buying cameras
Higher resolution means larger files. We size the recorder and drive around how many days of history you want, so footage is still there when you go looking a week later.
Night performance and lighting
Most incidents are recorded at night. Cameras with genuine low light performance, positioned away from direct glare, plus a little automated exterior lighting, do more for footage quality than adding two more cameras.
Keep it running through outages
Cameras, recorder, router and switch belong on a backed up circuit. Pairing CCTV with smart locks and access control also gives you a record of who entered and when, controlled from your phone.
